Ivanhoe primes Pungarayacu well
Heavy-oil focused Ivanhoe Energy said today it will start drilling of the first appraisal well in the Pungarayacu field, in Ecuador, in the upcoming days.

The well, IP-15, is expected to be drilled to around 400 metres.
An independent study by Gaffney, Cline & Associates concluded that within the 250-square-mile delineated portion of the block, and within the formation of primary interest, there are between 4.3 billion barrels and 12.1 billion barrels of oil originally in place, said the company in a statement.
Drilling and testing of the IP-15 well will be followed by drilling and testing of additional wells in different areas of Block 20, four of which already have the go-ahead.
Permitting for a further 20 wells will begin in January 2010.
